I have been diagnosed with vocal fold nodules. Will I ever be able to speak without hoarseness or sing again?
Vocal nodules or callouses on the front 1/3 of your vocal folds usually occur from using your voice too aggressively perhaps by coughing or clearing your throat continually, by yelling, speaking too loudly and incorrectly, and over-singing or singing outside of your optimal range.
Nodules can be resolved within approximately two to three months, if you learn how to use your voice correctly. That will require learning how to breathe from your lower rib cage and replenishing air when needed. It will also require learning to open the pharynx or back of your throat and speaking with a relaxed jaw and hydrated vocal folds.
As you learn to use your voice optimally, your nodules will resolve. The good news is that you have modified your speaking and singing behaviors; nodules will not reoccur.
